FIFA has denied reports that President Gianni Infantino had a mistress who received preferential treatment while he was working at the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
The Telegraph previously reported that during Infantino’s tenure as UEFA General Secretary, a woman with whom he allegedly had a relationship received a large sum of money from the organization upon her departure. According to the publication, UEFA also paid for her business school tuition.
“Gianni Infantino categorically rejects these allegations and considers them completely unfounded. Any claims of misconduct or violations of statutes and regulations are defamatory. No UEFA or FIFA employee has ever filed a complaint regarding Mr. Infantino’s conduct, as no such incidents involving him have occurred. All decisions concerning employees—including terminations and severance payments—were always approved by the relevant supervisors in accordance with applicable regulations,” Sky Sports quoted a FIFA spokesperson as saying.
Additionally, UEFA confirmed that a payment was made to the former employee in accordance with the rules in force at the time, and that her tuition fees were covered.
Infantino worked at UEFA starting in 2000; he became the organization’s General Secretary in 2009 and held that position until assuming the role of FIFA President in 2016.
