Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg’s $300 million (26.6 billion ruble) superyacht, Launchpad, has become the center of a controversy. According to the Alaska Beacon, its crew failed to respond to a distress signal from a small boat that had run out of fuel off the coast of Alaska.
The incident occurred in the waters between Juneau and Petersburg, where the small vessel had run out of fuel. Ultimately, the cruise ship Wilderness Legacy came to the boat’s aid.
Although the Launchpad was closer to the scene, it continued on its way. The cruise ship, meanwhile, towed the distressed boat to Farragut Bay.
Zuckerberg’s spokesperson, Brian Baker, denied allegations that the yacht’s crew ignored the situation, explaining that they had not heard the signal on their radio channel; by the time the message was picked up, other vessels were already providing assistance. He also clarified that neither the billionaire nor his wife was on board at the time.
