A sculpture of Russian President Vladimir Putin was installed in a park in the Danish city of Aarhus as part of a promotional campaign for a local radio station. However, just hours later, the bust was vandalized, according to Danish television channel TV2.
Radio4 previously announced it was presenting Denmark with a special gift: five busts of some of the most influential and talked-about people in the world. In addition to Putin, these included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, TV personality Kim Kardashian, and billionaire Elon Musk.
The radio station decided to promote its podcast about those in power. The nearly two-meter-tall bust of Putin was placed in a park in Aarhus.
“Six hours later, the head of the Putin sculpture was sawed off and stolen,” TV2 reported, citing a report from the radio station.
According to the channel, an Aarhus municipal employee discovered the pedestal and the headless bust on Monday and sent them to Radio4. According to the radio station’s press release, work is currently underway to determine the head’s location. The station asks listeners to contact it if they have any information about the theft.
Danish Radio4 positions itself as a platform for free expression. Its content includes criticism of the Danish authorities and a podcast about Russian art called “From Russia with Love.”
