The Russian team claimed silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris. The quartet of Ivan Girev, Vasily Kukushkin, Alexander Shchegolev, and Yegor Kornev finished just behind Hungary. The margin of defeat was extremely narrow — the Russians lost by just 0.09 seconds. This dramatic result came after a day that included some close calls in individual events as well. Other Russian swimmers also made progress: Kliment Kolesnikov and Pavel Samusenko qualified for the final in the men’s 50m backstroke, while Evgeniia Chikunova advanced to the final in the women’s 200m breaststroke.
