Researchers have developed a new wearable patch designed to help people achieve REM sleep more quickly and maintain it for longer periods without relying on medication or surgery. The device uses a combination of mild electrical stimulation and temperature modulation to influence brain activity patterns associated with REM sleep. In preliminary trials, participants who used the patch showed improved sleep continuity and longer REM duration compared to control groups. The technology could offer a non-pharmacological alternative for individuals suffering from sleep disorders that disrupt REM sleep, such as certain types of insomnia or REM sleep behavior disorder.
