On August 20, 2026, Rocket Lab launched a mission named «The Lightning God Defends». The Electron rocket carried the Japanese satellite SUSANOO-II (named after the Japanese god of lightning) for the company iQPS. This radar satellite is part of a constellation designed to provide high-resolution, near-real-time imagery of Earth’s surface. A key advantage of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology is that it can observe the planet day or night and penetrate cloud cover.
