The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has officially declared the outbreak of infant botulism traced to Nara Organics powdered infant formula to be over. Between April and May, a total of four babies in three states (California, Washington, and Pennsylvania) fell ill; all required hospitalization, but none died. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) identified the source of the botulism spores: milk supplied by Organic West Milk and subsequently spray-dried by Dairy Farms of America. Interestingly, the same milk source was also linked to a separate outbreak involving ByHeart Inc. formula that sickened 48 babies across 19 states, mostly in 2025. While both companies issued recalls, the FDA is still investigating the exact point of contamination — whether the milk was compromised before or during the drying process.
