The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has decided to honor Lionel Messi following the conclusion of his career with the national team. During the upcoming round of fixtures, all matches in both men’s and women’s domestic competitions will be paused in the 10th minute.
Once play is halted, players, coaches, and fans in the stadiums will join in a minute of applause to honor the Argentina captain. Through this gesture, the AFA aims to recognize Messi’s contribution to the history of the national team.
Messi, 39, played 207 matches for Argentina, scoring 125 goals and providing 68 assists. The forward represented the national team for over 20 years.
