During the large-scale “Statewide Shield” operation held in Florida from August 17 to 21, 163 missing minors were located, NBC Miami reports.
The recovered children—ranging in age from two months to 17 years—included many who had suffered abuse, been victims of exploitation, or been drawn into criminal activity. Three criminal cases have been opened in connection with these violations.
The operation is being described as one of the largest child recovery efforts in U.S. history. Missing children were also found in six other U.S. states, one U.S. territory, and 12 countries worldwide, though the exact number of those found in these locations was not specified.
