Starting in 2026, the United Kingdom will cease providing port services to firms involved in shipping Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to other countries, The Independent reports. According to the publication, these restrictions will affect all types of assistance, including insurance, and will be implemented gradually throughout the next year in coordination with other European powers. UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper announced this decision before the meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Canada. She also promised to allocate 13 million pounds sterling to Ukraine for repairs to its energy system after the end of the conflict. Previously, the Council of the European Union approved a new condition requiring gas buyers to confirm its source when importing into the EU territory. This measure aims to completely stop the purchase of Russian gas by the union’s member states.
