In the Spanish province of Barcelona, a woman lived for several years with her daughter in a house containing the body of her deceased husband. The EFE news agency reported the story.
Neighbors contacted the police after not seeing the home’s occupants for a long time; local residents had become concerned by the massive amount of household waste piling up around the property. When law enforcement officers entered the house, they found the woman and her daughter. Preliminary information suggests they had not left the home since at least the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Police also discovered the body of a man—the father of the daughter living there—who was approximately 75 years old. A preliminary forensic examination indicated that he had died of natural causes about two years ago. The body was sent to the Barcelona Institute of Forensic Medicine to pinpoint the exact date of death.
Police found no evidence of a crime related to the man’s death, so neither the mother nor the daughter was detained.
