A state of emergency has been declared in New York due to an approaching storm. State Governor Kathy Hochul announced the move on X (formerly Twitter).
According to Hochul, the state of emergency applies to Nassau, Suffolk, New York, and Westchester counties.
“Prolonged heavy rain, coastal flooding, and strong winds are expected,” Hochul wrote.
The governor added that the most severe weather impacts are anticipated along the coast from the evening of September 25 through the beginning of next week.
On September 22, strong, gusty winds battered Alabama. According to ABC 33/40, thunderstorms in Shelby and St. Clair counties resulted in multiple reports of downed trees, severed power lines, and road obstructions.
In August, at least seven people died due to storms and flooding in Indiana. According to The New York Times, the victims ranged in age from 4 to 86. Wind gusts exceeded 44 meters per second, and water levels reached record highs not seen in 113 years.
