The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has issued a critical warning in its 2026 World Trade Report, stating that a failure to modernize and strengthen the global trading system could shrink the world economy by up to 10 percent by 2050. Conversely, the report highlights that deeper international cooperation and robust multilateral trade agreements could expand global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by roughly 2.9 percent. Business leaders are urged to prioritize supply chain stability as corporate protectionism threatens long-term macroeconomic metrics.
