In a major effort to improve neonatal survival rates, researchers from the UK NHS, international partners, and Pfizer have officially launched the BEATRIX study. This world-first Phase 3 clinical trial evaluates an investigational maternal vaccine targeting Group B Streptococcus (GBS), the most frequent cause of deadly infections like sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis in newborn infants. Healthy pregnant individuals are being actively enrolled across major clinical centers to test whether maternal immunization can build essential antibodies and stop these life-threatening bacterial infections before birth.
