An international research collective spearheaded by the University of Aberdeen is fundamentally reshaping how hospitals manage severe postpartum haemorrhage (PPH). For decades, emergency maternal bleeding protocols were mistakenly derived from male-centric military trauma data. By isolating a unique pregnancy-specific blood-clotting failure known as Acute Obstetric Coagulopathy (AOC), this study introduces rapid diagnostic tools and targeted therapies tailored precisely to maternal physiology, promising to significantly reduce childbirth mortality rates worldwide.
