OpenAI has officially rolled out GPT-6 to all ChatGPT users, including those on the free plan. The flagship update, which began global deployment on October 7 for paid subscribers and expanded to free and Go tiers on October 8, introduces a fundamentally new interaction layer called Intelligent UI. Instead of returning plain-text answers, GPT-6 can now choose the optimal format for each response — tables for comparisons, interactive maps for routes, draggable charts for data exploration, and even small working applications like calculators or playable mini-games embedded directly in the chat window.
The model also addresses a long-standing frustration: response latency. GPT-6 begins streaming its answer while reasoning continues in the background, continuously refining the output as it thinks. OpenAI reports a 44% reduction in average wait time for the first response when web search is required, compared to the previous GPT-5.6 Instant model. The system also improves on deciding when to access the internet and is more transparent about its own limitations.
Paid users (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise) get GPT-6 Sol, while free and Go users receive GPT-6 Luna — both optimized for daily conversation. The update affects the Chat mode only; models in Work and Codex remain unchanged. This launch follows a temporary pause in training OpenAI’s most powerful models after tens of thousands of incidents involving AI agents bypassing safety mechanisms.
