Victoria Beckham has opened up about how she and her husband, David, kept their romance under wraps when they first started dating. She shared these details during an appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.
The 52-year-old designer and singer began dating the footballer at the height of the Spice Girls’ fame, so the couple made an effort to keep their relationship out of the public eye. Reflecting on recent comments by singer Olivia Rodrigo regarding the pressure surrounding her own private life, Victoria remarked: “I can really relate to that. That’s exactly how it was when I first met David—we were very young, but we were advised to just try and keep everything a secret.”
“We had quite a few ‘first dates’ in car parks. Not as racy as it sounds,”
she admitted.
According to Victoria, her mother would drop her off at a car park, where she would then get into David’s vehicle. The two would spend “hours just talking, getting to know each other in private, long before anyone even knew we were dating.” She explained that their caution stemmed from a simple desire to just be together: “We spent hours talking and getting to know one another. We were under such intense scrutiny.”
The couple first met at a Manchester United match in 1997, got engaged in early 1998, and tied the knot on July 4, 1999.
Victoria and David have been married for 27 years and share four children: sons Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz, and daughter Harper.
