The European Space Agency’s Euclid telescope, originally designed to investigate dark matter and dark energy, has unexpectedly discovered a previously unknown comet named C/2026 S1 (Euclid). The object was detected approximately 1.3 billion kilometers from Earth using a specialized tracking algorithm. Scientists describe the discovery as an exciting example of how cutting-edge space observatories can reveal unexpected phenomena while pursuing entirely different scientific goals.
