Botanists conducting rigorous field taxonomy surveys in Guangxi, China, have officially described a highly localized new plant species named Stimpsonia danxiacola. Growing exclusively in moist roadside soil among fragile danxia landform cliffs, only 40 mature individuals have been documented so far. Due to heavy eco-tourism pressures and geographic isolation, scientists are urging immediate environmental protection measures to rescue this delicate purple-flowering endemic from the brink of extinction.
