A publication appeared in Scientific Reports in which researchers from Italy and Switzerland presented a different concept for the disappearance of Neanderthals. The model is based on the idea of neutral drift, suggesting that Homo sapiens genes were no more potent or active than Neanderthal DNA. The work was published in the journal Scientific Reports. The model developed by the scientists simulates movement cycles where small groups of Sapiens—say, an average of 2 individuals per 30 members of the group—regularly joined Neanderthal communities and interacted with them.
