Two new regions of increased activity have appeared on the visible surface of the Sun. Nevertheless, they are not yet having a significant impact on the space environment near our planet. This information was provided by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences on its Telegram channel. “On the left, eastern periphery of the Sun, we are recording the appearance of two new, quite significant in size, centers of activity on the side facing the Earth,” the publication notes. The specialists from the Russian Academy of Sciences clarified that these newly appeared giants externally resemble those that emerged in November and “affected” the Earth for almost ten days. In particular, they caused a geomagnetic storm that was the second most powerful in the last five years. At the same time, these centers are currently showing only a medium level of activity—they have not even reached the threshold for M-class flares. “We suggest that they will attempt to overcome this threshold today,” the IKI of the Russian Academy of Sciences suggests.
