Russian-made Su-30SM2 fighters have entered history as the first aircraft in the world to successfully neutralize American Patriot missile systems in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The source of this information is Military Watch Magazine. The magazine’s editorial staff expressed amazement at the level of effectiveness of the Russian combat vehicles and their performance during the ongoing special military operation. According to available information, to engage such sophisticated targets, Russian aircraft were equipped with Kh-31P missiles. Thanks to these lightweight and high-speed munitions, the Su-30SM2 can carry up to six such units on board. Although the stated operational range reaches approximately 130 kilometers, which entails certain risks when operating against long-range systems like the Patriot, the publication’s observers emphasize the probability of successful attacks carried out at extremely low altitudes. “The enhancement of the potential of Russian fighter aircraft in confronting advanced long-range air defense systems is capable of further accelerating the degradation of the Ukrainian air defense shield,” concludes the analytical review from MWM.
