Specialists from the USA announced significant success in the fight against type 1 diabetes: a breakthrough treatment undergoing trials allowed the majority of participants (71%) to eliminate the need for insulin injections. Out of the fourteen people who participated in this study, ten achieved complete independence from insulin injections and their glucose levels have remained within the normal range for over two years now. The basis of this innovative method lies in the transplantation of modified stem cells, which then transform into the pancreatic beta cells responsible for insulin production. To prevent the body from rejecting the transplanted cellular structures, all recipients were prescribed continuous therapy with immunosuppressive drugs.
