Brazilian scientists conducted a major study to determine whether solar flares can affect the likelihood of myocardial infarctions. The analysis showed a noticeable increase in the number of middle-aged and elderly women admitted to hospitals with a diagnosis of “heart attack” during periods of increased solar activity. If a link between geomagnetic storms and heart attacks is proven, it will allow medical professionals to anticipate the workload of medical facilities during fluctuations in the Earth’s magnetic field. Researchers believe that strong external electromagnetic disturbances can influence the electrical activity of the heart muscle.
