Logan Thompson, the goaltender for the Washington Capitals, shared that his teammate, Belarusian hockey player Aliaksei Protas, has begun instructing him in the Russian language. RMNB cited his comments.
“Protas provides me with brief lessons whenever a chance arises—individual words. Truthfully, I retain almost nothing… except for curse words,” he disclosed.
Currently, two Russian-speaking players are on the roster for the Washington squad: Protas and the “Capitals'” captain, Alexander Ovechkin.
Thompson is 28 years old, hailing from Canada by birth. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Vegas Golden Knights starting in 2021, before being traded to the Washington Capitals in 2024 in exchange for two third-round draft selections, one in 2024 and one in 2025.
In the current NHL regular season, the Washington players have participated in 23 games, accumulating 26 points. The team currently occupies the seventh position within the NHL’s Eastern Conference. The “Capitals'” next game is scheduled for November 27th against the Winnipeg Jets, with the opening face-off set for 3:00 AM Moscow time.
