In a conversation with Variety, British musician Elton John disclosed that over the preceding eighteen months, he has become sightless in his right eye, with his left eye functioning only minimally.
John remarked that he has essentially lost the capacity to read, watch videos, or process visual input, yet the artist maintains a positive outlook.
“I’ve had an incredible life, and there is hope. I simply need to be patient: science will assist me someday,” the artist stated.
According to David Furnish, the musician’s partner, initial positive developments have appeared in the singer’s treatment. Procedures performed have resulted in improvements for his left eye.
“I have to smile and bear it. There are times it’s truly difficult for me. But overall, I have a wonderful family, two amazing children, and him,” John said, gesturing toward Furnish, and added, “Paul McCartney calls me on FaceTime to check in. That’s very touching!”
John also revealed that due to his vision issues, he has discovered an alternative means of communication—via an iPad which enables him to see people close up.
