Apple issued iOS 26.2 on December 12, presenting another update for iPhone that cannot be called major, but it notably broadens the system’s capability and bolsters security. The focus included convenience for daily routines, interface visual refinements, and important modifications for specific territories.
One of the most apparent novelties was the enhancement to the “Reminders” application. Now, a reminder can be made into a full alarm by activating the “Urgent” option. Such a notification is distinct with its blue color, offers to snooze or dismiss the signal, and upon time postponement, displays a Live Activity on the lock screen with a countdown and quick actions. Apple separately informs users about the fresh feature via a welcome screen and an in-app banner.
The lock screen received a visual upgrade in the form of the Liquid Glass slider, which permits flexible customization of the clock’s appearance—from nearly fully transparent to frosted. The option to utilize the classic opaque style and color choices remains available. In Tinted mode, the system automatically manages transparency and contrast settings, eliminating the need for manual adjustments like before.
AirDrop security in iOS 26.2 is greater due to an extra verification step for unknown contacts. Now, the recipient can generate a special code that is entered on the sender’s device. This code is valid for up to 30 days, and management of trusted contacts is accessible in system settings. This solution reduces the hazard of unwanted data transfer.
Apple also revised the sleep score scale in watchOS 26.2. The point ranges have become more realistic and better reflect well-being following nocturnal rest. The sleep evaluation factors in duration, bedtime, and the number of awakenings, forming a comprehensive view of rest quality.
The “Podcasts” app gained automatically created chapters, swift access to mentions of other podcasts and links discussed in the episode. Freeform got support for tables with resizable cells, and “Passwords” features a setting to govern websites where login data saving is disabled. Apple News updated its layout and browsing, simplifying access to sections and subscriptions.
Among other enhancements are support for simultaneous addition of several accessories in the “Home” app, the capability for screen flashing upon notifications for people with special needs, expanded emergency alerts with maps and guidance, and an updated design for the level tool in the “Measure” app. “Games” saw new sorting methods, controller support, and live updates of challenge results.
Apple paid special attention to regional adjustments. In the European Union, the live translation feature via AirPods became available, and in Japan, users gained the ability to select a search engine upon first iPhone launch, install alternative app stores, and in the future, use voice assistants other than Siri. These actions are tied to local statutory demands.
The update patches over twenty vulnerabilities, including two actively exploited issues in WebKit that could permit malicious code execution. Apple strongly advises installing iOS 26.2 as soon as possible, as the disclosure of vulnerability specifics heightens the risk of assaults. The update is now accessible for all supporting iPhones, and the first beta of iOS 26.3 might arrive shortly.
