The White House asked FIFA to make the award for Donald Trump as significant as possible.
The US President received the Peace Prize, established shortly before the event, at the 2026 World Cup draw.
The Times reports that the politician’s aides discussed with the International Federation of Association Football establishing such a trophy whose scale would rival the World Cup trophy.
Also, the White House wanted two US Marines to be present next to Trump during the presentation. Ultimately, apparently, FIFA managed to persuade the president’s aides otherwise – the Marines only brought out the trophy and then left.
