In the eastern part of Turkey, near Aktuyun, six large stone discs were discovered three years ago during road construction work.
Their origin continues to spark discussion among researchers. Each disc possesses a round shape and weighs over 200 kilograms. Details about the find were reported in the Arkeonews publication.
Some discs were situated on the surface, while the remaining ones were buried underground. The headman of Konur village, Cafer Gezer, noticed their peculiar shapes and, to prevent damage or disappearance, moved them to his residence using specialized equipment. They have been in his possession for three years since then.
Gezer has attempted to ascertain what these stones represent. According to him, scholars have advanced a theory that they might be uncommon geological formations or fossilized remnants of ancient life forms. However, without conducting laboratory analyses, these suppositions remain speculative.
Experts observe that circular stones of this nature might have served various functions in antiquity, such as millstones, ceremonial objects, or merely natural formations. Gezer also mentioned that Hakkari University is prepared to transfer the discs to the Van city museum for subsequent examination.
Local residents trust that if the discs prove scientifically valuable, they will become a fresh tourist attraction for the area. Currently, Cafer Gezer has contacted the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as archaeologists and geologists, requesting the organization of an expedition to evaluate the discovered stones.
