
WASHINGTON, December 28. /TASS/. The goal by the captain and forward of “Washington,” Alexander Ovechkin, in the away regular season game of the National Hockey League (NHL) against “New Jersey” was the 152nd that allowed his team to tie the score in regulation time.
“Washington” defeated “New Jersey” in overtime on Sunday night with a score of 4:3. In the first period, Ovechkin provided an assist to Alexey Protas; in the third, he equalized the score (3:3). Thus, Ovechkin improved his record for the number of goals that led to a tie. The Russian is also the most prolific in terms of goals scored in the third periods (342).
“New Jersey” is one of five teams (along with “Carolina,” “Winnipeg,” “Tampa,” and “Florida”) against which Ovechkin has accumulated at least 90 points in his career.
Ovechkin netted his 912th puck in NHL regular season play, solidifying his lead in the list of top scorers in league history and extending his streak of productive contributions to six games.
