Apple company revised its catalog of vintage products, incorporating several gadgets all at once. Among others, the final 13-inch MacBook Air notebook powered by an Intel chip, the iPhone 11 Pro, and various iterations of the Apple Watch Series 5 smartwatches achieved vintage status.
The last Intel-based MacBook Air was released in 2020. Concurrently, the iPhone 8 Plus with 128 GB storage became vintage (other versions of that device were listed previously), as did the iPhone 11 Pro (the iPhone 11 Pro Max was added to the roster last autumn), and the cellular-enabled iPad Air 3 (Wi-Fi models are unaffected).
As per Apple’s guidelines, products whose official sales concluded over five years ago enter the vintage category. The manufacturer and authorized service centers may offer repair services for these items, contingent upon spare part availability. Furthermore, Apple maintains a list of obsolete products, which includes merchandise whose sales stopped more than seven years ago. Generally, repair assistance for such devices is not furnished. Nevertheless, owners of MacBook notebooks retain the prerogative to replace the battery for 10 years following production cessation, provided spare components remain accessible.
Simultaneously with the augmentation of the vintage assortment, Apple placed one item onto the obsolete list. This pertains to a special edition of the Beats Solo 3 headphones, launched in 2018 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Mickey Mouse. Until now, this headphone version resided within the vintage classification.
