In Windows 11, advertisements are present almost everywhere. The system hasn’t reached the level of “hot dates near you” yet, but there are plenty of intrusive prompts and suggestions. Microsoft actively promotes its applications, services, and AI features at every turn. This is especially noticeable during the initial system setup, where promotional blocks occupy a significant part of the process. All the more surprising was the recent update. In one section of Windows 11, ads have finally been permitted to be disabled. A user observed that Microsoft is modifying the settings page for “Nearby Sharing”—the AirDrop equivalent for Windows. The section will gain a new name, “Share,” and along with it, a long-awaited toggle will appear, allowing users to remove the intrusive recommendations. This concerns application suggestions within the standard “Share” window. In upcoming builds, under Settings → System → Share, the option “Show suggested apps” will appear, which can be turned off. Recommendations in the sending window will remain for now, but at least control over them will be available. Against the backdrop of Microsoft’s general advertising policy, this seems almost like a move towards users. Previously, the company already allowed the “Recommended” block in the “Start” menu to be properly switched off. Small, yet noticeable alterations demonstrate that common sense sometimes prevails in Windows 11 after all.
