American boxer Joseph George lost consciousness during the break following the initial round of his match against fellow countryman Atif Oberton, according to ESPN.
This event took place during a Detroit boxing night in the USA and was caught on the live broadcast. In the course of the first round, the two fighters accidentally clashed heads. George managed to finish the round, and in the ensuing break, as he sat down on his stool in his corner awaiting instructions from his trainers, he subsequently fainted and collapsed.
George regained consciousness subsequently, but was unable to continue the fight, resulting in a loss being awarded to him via technical knockout. His trainer, Hylton Williams, stated that the boxer was hospitalized, underwent an MRI, and is currently in stable condition.
“I think that affected me mentally. I just wanted to make sure he was alright. I’ve never witnessed anything like that in boxing before. I was very concerned because we all aim to step into the ring, execute our plan, and put up a fight. As a fighter, you want to leave the ring the same way you entered it,” Oberton remarked.
