The United States women’s ice hockey team will be unable to attend the address to the US Congress by American leader Donald Trump, nor will they have a meeting with him. This was reported on February 23rd by The Guardian, citing a spokesperson for the women’s team.
Previously, Trump had extended an offer for the US women’s hockey team to fly via military transport to attend the State of the Union address scheduled for February 24th.
A team representative indicated that while the athletes are grateful for the invitation, they are unable to attend due to pre-existing training and professional commitments.
“We are genuinely thankful for the invitation extended to our gold medal-winning US women’s hockey team, and we deeply value the recognition of their outstanding achievements,” the statement read.
The US hockey team defeated Canada (2-1) in the final of the Olympic hockey tournament. This marked the American squad’s first Olympic gold since 1980. Subsequently, Trump congratulated the national team on their victory in the Olympic hockey competition.
