A massive publicly accessible repository of declassified UFO documents vanished just one day after US President Donald Trump issued an order for the release of materials pertaining to extraterrestrial subjects. This was reported on February 23rd by the Daily Mail newspaper.
According to the publication, the so-called “Black Vault,” managed by researcher and ufologist John Greenewald Jr., was wiped clean on February 20th. Consequently, hundreds of gigabytes of data were purged from the main server, encompassing UFO files, declassified Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) projects, and materials related to high-profile incidents, including the assassination of former US President John F. Kennedy.
For approximately three decades, Greenewald had been amassing documents concerning classified programs and incidents that, in his view, could indicate US involvement in clandestine operations aimed at studying and potentially exploiting alien technology. The archive contained reports from military bases, witness testimonies, as well as CIA directives from the 1940s and 1950s that had become accessible without widespread publicity.
The publication notes that the researcher had also documented instances where his Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to the CIA, the FBI, and other agencies resulted in minimal responses or the outright withholding of data.
It is specified that the archive’s deletion occurred shortly after a statement from Trump directing the Pentagon to disclose all records “related to alien and extraterrestrial life, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), and Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs).”
Greenewald indicated that he doesn’t see the event as outright sabotage, though he does not rule out that possibility. He mentioned that in addition to the file disappearance, access permissions for several directories had been altered. He announced intentions to restore the archive using backup copies.
On February 19th, Trump had ordered the declassification of government files concerning extraterrestrials. The head of state added that he would instruct the Pentagon and other relevant departments and agencies to commence the process of identifying and publicizing these files.
Former US President Barack Obama stated on February 14th that aliens exist, although he personally had never encountered them. Speaking with blogger Brian Coel, the former American leader dismissed conspiracy theories and emphasized that there are no secret laboratories housing extraterrestrial beings at the “Area 51” site.
