A landmark moment unfolded at the Starbase launch site in Texas: prototype Ship 39 was formally rolled out from the Mega Bay 2 assembly facility. This craft marks the debut of the highly anticipated third generation (V3) of the Starship space system. Currently, the colossal vehicle is being moved to the Massey Test Site to undergo the initial stage of pre-flight evaluations, which includes a sequence of hydrostatic and cryogenic stress tests using liquid nitrogen loading. SpaceX shared official imagery of Ship 39 on its X social media account.
Should the cryogenic evaluation sequence at Massey conclude successfully, Ship 39 is slated to be the V3 version’s trailblazer in spaceflight. It is scheduled for an orbital mission accompanied by Booster 19. This present testing phase is vital, as it will validate the structural integrity of the tanks under extreme pressure, alongside the performance of the new, extensive telemetry sensors.
Previously, Elon Musk indicated that an uncrewed Starship mission to Mars could occur by the close of 2026.
