Brazilian citizens marked the country’s very first gold medal at a Winter Olympics during the traditional carnival, as relayed to RIA Novosti by Brazil’s Ambassador to Italy, Renato Mosca de Souza. Alpine skier Lucas Pinheiro Broton delivered this historic first for Brazil by clinching the gold in the giant slalom event at the recent Winter Games in Italy.
“We all felt immense joy, as there was a feeling within Brazil that he could win. Still, certainty is never guaranteed. We were shown footage of people celebrating in the heart of the carnival in Brazil, against a backdrop of hot weather,” the Ambassador remarked during a piano concert hosted at the Brazilian Embassy in Rome. According to Renato Mosca de Souza, the skier’s triumph has the potential to spark enthusiasm for winter sports among Brazilian youth.
“This serves as a powerful illustration of how we can genuinely motivate young people toward accomplishments that fall outside our established national traditions. It’s crucial for the government to now focus efforts on fostering incentives for youth in this sector,” the diplomat concluded.
