Mozilla has incorporated a fresh capability into the beta build of Firefox, version 148, allowing users to entirely switch off integrated Artificial Intelligence features. This new setting is presented as a standalone toggle switch and maintains its chosen state across subsequent browser updates.
Activating this switch results in the deactivation of every tool that relies on on-device artificial intelligence models. According to the development team, these functionalities operate without sending any information to remote servers; the required models are instead downloaded and processed directly on the user’s machine.
The suite of AI functionalities encompasses local translation services, the automatic generation of captions for images within PDF files, intelligent previewing of open tabs, and suggestions for grouping these tabs. The newly introduced toggle grants the ability to disable this entire array of features in one go.
Presently, this option is exclusive to the beta iteration 148. The principal, stable release remains Firefox 147. It is anticipated that this update will roll out to the general user base following the conclusion of its testing phase.
