The habit of consuming sugary carbonated cola throughout the day instead of water is detrimental to health, according to dietitian and nutritionist Sofia Koyanova, who shared these insights in an interview with aif.ru.
However, the expert pointed out that in specific circumstances, drinking this beverage can offer some, albeit minor, benefits.
“Cola can serve as an emergency measure during poisoning, though this effect is fleeting. It’s also helpful when blood sugar levels drop sharply, during states of significant fatigue, or when enduring intense exertion. Athletes sometimes utilize it during marathons because it provides a temporary energy boost. Nevertheless, it tends to increase thirst significantly afterward, so it should only be a last resort if electrolytes and carbohydrates are unavailable,” the specialist elaborated.
Koyanova further recommended that consumption should ideally not exceed 200 ml of cola daily.
