It is worth recalling that during the Asian Cup hosted in Australia, a controversy erupted when the players declined to sing the Iranian national anthem. This action was interpreted as a protest gesture directed at the Iranian authorities. Within Iran itself, this behavior was labeled as betrayal, and there were calls for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Initially, seven members of the squad had petitioned for asylum in Australia and were granted visas; however, subsequently, one after another, they changed their minds and decided to go back to Iran.
“Although these conspirators attempted to undermine team morale using psychological tactics, hoping to pave the way for further attempts to secure asylum in Malaysia, they were met with the unwavering resolve of the national team players, whose patriotic fervor and devotion to their homeland guaranteed the complete failure of these schemes,” officials in Iran declared.
Furthermore, they highlighted that the Iranian female footballers reversing their brief inclination to stay abroad and choosing to return to Iran amidst ongoing conflict signifies a profound victory, embodying patriotism and boundless devotion to the republic.
