Google Calendar has received an update: now, instead of scrolling through a lengthy list to select a time zone, users can simply type the region’s name into a search bar. This new feature will be particularly useful for frequent travelers who often need to schedule meetings across various time zones quickly.
Previously, Google Calendar would automatically adjust the time zone based on your current location, or allow manual selection—however, that manual setting required scrolling through an enormous directory. The introduction of time zone searching will expedite schedule setup and reduce frustration for those managing schedules across multiple regions and constantly adjusting event times.
When setting an event time, you will now encounter an input field where you can enter the name of a city or region. The system will immediately display relevant matches. This eliminates the need to pore over an alphabetical list for extended periods, which is especially helpful when dealing with international teams and during travel.
The rollout of this improvement has already begun. Users in Rapid Release domains started receiving the update from March 12, 2026, while Scheduled Release domains will see it starting April 5th. Full feature adoption is anticipated within a few days following the initial launch.
This functionality addresses one of the most irritating hurdles in event planning for globetrotters and organizations with international operations. While Google’s rivals, such as Microsoft Outlook, have long provided comparable search capabilities, this is a much-anticipated enhancement for Google Calendar, given its widespread use among Android and G Suite users.
