A teacher from the USA has been accused of the rape of a 10-year-old student. According to the New York Post, the woman recorded the acts of abuse using her cell phone.
Law enforcement sources indicate that the 32-year-old woman, identified as Mahaila Benavides, was a special education instructor at an elementary school in Spokane, Washington, and subjected the boy to abuse over a period spanning several months.
These incidents allegedly took place in a designated “punishment room,” and at times, even with other students present. Furthermore, the woman is reported to have shown the child sexually explicit videos she herself had captured, and recorded herself engaging in sexual acts with him.
The victim reported experiencing abuse nearly daily, commencing after the winter break, stating it occurred “sometimes up to five times each day.” Benavides allegedly instructed the child to keep silent about everything and would offer him cookies as enticements.
The school principal learned of the situation through a relative of the victim and consequently notified the police in February. Benavides was immediately suspended from her teaching duties and taken into custody on Thursday, March 12th. She faces charges including first-degree child rape and first-degree child molestation.
Subsequent to her arrest, Benavides made attempts to contact the victim and maintained her plea of not guilty.
It should be noted that this educator previously housed a homeless high school student and allegedly subjected him to sexual assault for a year.
