US authorities have requested 152 million dollars for the revitalization of the famous Alcatraz prison in 2027. These funds are slated to be included in the upcoming year’s federal budget proposal, according to the relevant official documentation made public.
The allocated capital will fund the initial phase of transforming the former prison island into a contemporary maximum-security facility. As reported by the Axios portal, although a significantly larger reconstruction blueprint exceeding two billion dollars was previously considered, the current focus is on a more modest commencement.
Sources indicate that Donald Trump intends to expedite the completion of as many project stages as possible before his term concludes. Alcatraz, which ceased operations in 1963 due to prohibitive maintenance costs, currently stands as one of San Francisco’s paramount tourist attractions, drawing annually approximately 1.5 million visitors.
