Microsoft has implemented a feature enabling Windows 11 users to postpone operating system updates. This deployment was reported by the publication Windows Latest.
A novel capability has recently been integrated into the OS, granting the ability to defer system updates via the “Windows Update” interface. Utilizing this recently introduced control, individuals are now empowered to push back the installation schedule by increments of one, two, three, four, or five weeks. According to accessible details, the longest period one can schedule for deferral is five weeks, succeeding which the updates will be applied automatically. Nevertheless, organizations utilizing the enterprise editions of Windows 11 possess the option to delay these updates for as long as twelve months.
Journalists observed: “Users now possess the capacity to select a precise calendar date and halt updates until that specific day arrives.”
Experts point out that this constitutes a considerable shift from Microsoft’s prior stance on delivering Windows updates. There is speculation that the firm might even cease mandating certain updates altogether, though this remains unverified at present.
At the start of April, Microsoft began compelling Windows 11 users to upgrade, justifying this directive by stating that older system builds would lose support come autumn, rendering their continued use insecure.
