Social platform X (formerly Twitter) owned by Elon Musk has announced the debut of the XChat messenger. The application’s release for iPhone is scheduled for April 17, according to 3DNews.
The app will be solely accessible to users with an X account and will feature the typical array of modern messenger capabilities, such as end-to-end encryption for messages, voice and video calls, file sharing, group discussions, and the ability to modify and erase messages. A distinct feature is the absence of advertisements and user tracking mechanisms.
Based on materials published on X, the XChat interface utilizes a minimalist aesthetic with a focus on conversations. On the app’s reload page in the App Store, the service is characterized as a “private and concentrated area for communication.” Initially, the application will only be available within the iOS ecosystem—an Android version is not planned at launch.
Nevertheless, some X users have raised doubts about the proclaimed privacy standards. Notably, it is pointed out that while message protection is declared, the service might correlate a broad spectrum of user information with the account, including geolocation, contacts, and profile details.
