Charlize Theron, age 50, has made her debut as the enchanting nymph Calypso in the latest film from acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, titled “Odyssey.” New footage from the movie was unveiled at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas.
Entertainment Weekly reported this news.
Theron is renowned for her performances in movies such as “Monster,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and “Atomic Blonde.” The star landed one of the pivotal roles in this cinematic rendition of Homer’s famed ancient Greek epic.
During the segment screened at the festival, Odysseus, portrayed by Matt Damon, is seen conversing with the nymph Calypso on the isle of Ogygia. As per the ancient myth’s narrative, this is the very island where the nymph detained the hero for a period of seven years following the conclusion of the Trojan War. In the teaser, Odysseus poses the question: “How long have I been here, Calypso?”
Director Christopher Nolan positioned “Odyssey” as his next major undertaking, following the massive success of “Oppenheimer.”
It is worth recalling that Nolan cast Matt Damon in the leading role of Odysseus, having previously collaborated with him on “Interstellar.” Damon has worked with the director on multiple occasions and is considered one of his favored actors.
