Former Arsenal FC custodian and Austrian national team player, Alex Manninger, has passed away at the age of 48. This report originates from the British publication, The Independent.
According to the newspaper, the ex-goalkeeper was involved in a road accident. Confirmation of this unfortunate event has been provided by both the Austrian Football Association and FC Red Bull Salzburg, one of the clubs he previously represented.
“We are mourning the loss of our former goalkeeper, Alexander Manninger, who tragically died in a traffic collision,” stated Salzburg in their official announcement.
Between 1997 and 2002, Manninger appeared in 64 games for Arsenal. During this tenure, he typically served as the understudy to the primary goalkeeper, David Seaman. It was as a member of that squad that Manninger shared in the triumphs of winning the Premier League and the FA Cup in 1998.
