In Innsbruck, an Austrian city, an Austrian Airlines aircraft was prevented from taking off promptly because a bee obstructed a sensor. The Embraer ERJ-195 jet, operating a service from Innsbruck to Vienna, was already accelerating down the runway when the crew observed a discrepancy in instrument readings, leading them to abort the takeoff procedure.
The airline stated that the erratic speed readings were due to a bee lodging itself in one of the Pitot tubes. At the time of this incident, 102 passengers and five crew members were aboard the plane. The aircraft was safely taxied back to the apron. Passengers were subsequently accommodated on a different flight to Vienna. The total delay amounted to approximately four and a half hours.
