Two US military personnel sustained injuries following an encounter with a brown bear on the training grounds of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, the same location where Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held talks in August of last year, as reported by the Associated Press.
“Two US service members were hurt after coming into contact with a brown bear in the mountainous training area near Anchorage… The event took place on Thursday while the personnel were engaged in a ‘land navigation training exercise’ at Arctic Valley, a section of the Elmendorf-Richardson joint base’s training area,” the agency’s dispatch stated.
The condition of the injured individuals has not been disclosed. It is known that they deployed pepper spray against the wild animal.
The discussions between Putin and Trump took place in Alaska on August 15, 2025. The meeting convened at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage. The presidents addressed potential avenues for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. Both leaders characterized the meeting favorably. Following the summit, the Russian President indicated the possibility of reaching a conclusion to the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing that Russia desires a resolution with lasting implications.
