The inaugural preview for the upcoming drama from Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, titled “Parallel Stories” (Histoires Parallèles, 2026), has been released. This two-time Oscar recipient has shifted his focus to European settings and French performers for this specific project.
The principal roles in the film are filled by Isabelle Huppert, Vincent Cassel, Catherine Deneuve, Virginie Efira, and Pierre Niney. The movie is an adaptation of the sixth installment of Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski’s “Dekalog,” famously known as “A Short Film About Love” (1988).
Specific plot details remain under wraps, but the narrative centers on a writer portrayed by Huppert. In her quest for material for her next novel, she begins observing her neighbors. Kieślowski’s original drama featured a young postman who monitored a young woman out of voyeuristic curiosity, only for her to reciprocate his interest.
The global debut of “Parallel Stories” is scheduled for May 14th, integrated within the Cannes Film Festival program.
